To celebrate its 5th anniversary, the Cité du Vin is welcoming renowned French actress Carole Bouquet, a keen wine enthusiast and winegrower. After falling in love with the island of Pantelleria, located between Sicily and Tunisia and whose name means ‘island of wind’, Carole Bouquet has been producing her own wine – Sangue d’Oro – since 2005. With her team, she has restored abandoned vineyards and produces outstanding wines. By setting herself the challenge of crafting the classic ‘Passito’ style in the finest tradition of wines from ‘raisined’ grapes, Carole Bouquet is helping to preserve the island’s winegrowing heritage. Her Sangue d’Oro is an outstanding sweet white wine made from old-vine Muscat of Alexandria – its highly intense aromas and grapes have a high level of resistance to climate change. In 2011, the then Minister of Culture Frédéric Mitterrand awarded her the ‘Commander of the Order of Arts and Literature’ distinction for her dual contribution to culture and gastronomy.
